ValleiRund & Lam
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
ValleiRund & Lam is a farm on the Woutersweg in Ede that raises grass-fed Black Angus cattle and its own cross-bred Valleilam sheep on the old fields of the Doesburger Eng, and sells the meat directly.
The cattle are outside all year and eat grass, sometimes topped up with a little concentrate in their last months, and the sheep also graze almost year-round on herb-rich pasture, with planted hedgerows and copses for shelter. No synthetic fertiliser or chemical sprays are used, and their website says the meat is antibiotic-free. The farm holds no organic certificate, which their website puts down to the cost, though it describes its methods as close to organic livestock farming. Beef comes in mixed packs of 7.5 or 12.5 kg covering the whole animal, or by the kilo while it lasts, including shin, soup meat and picanha. Lamb, usually from September to February, comes as a quarter-lamb pack of about 4 kg or by the kilo, and lamb liver is on the list.
Orders are taken by WhatsApp message or email and collected at Woutersweg 1. An animal is only slaughtered once most of it is sold, and lamb buyers get two weeks' notice. All meat is vacuum-packed in portions for two or three.
The Valleilam is their own breeding line, crossed from Texel, Swifter, Noordhollander and Rouge de l'Ouest sheep.
