Kaasboerderij Vrede-Oord
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Kaasboerderij Vrede-Oord is an organic dairy farm on the Van Teylingenweg in Kamerik, where the milk of the farm's 70 cows has been made into raw-milk cheese since 2014.
The farm has been run organically since about 1997 and is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. The cows are outside as much as the weather allows, grazing fresh grass and herbs, and no pesticides or artificial fertiliser go on the land. The boerenkaas (raw-milk farm cheese) is sold from about four weeks old to over a year, plain or with fenugreek, wild garlic, Italian herbs, cumin or truffle, and since 2016 it may carry the Wilde Weide label for organic raw-milk cheese from the Groene Hart. KamerTaler, made since 2022, is an Emmental-style cheese with holes, from raw milk and vegetarian rennet. The farm also sells organic beef from its own cattle, in cuts from mince and stewing beef to rib-eye. Some of the goat's and sheep's cheeses in the shop are bought in from other organic makers.
The farm shop is open on Saturdays from 8:30 to 13:00, other times by arrangement, and the farm has a stall at the Saturday Streekmarkt in Woerden from 9:00 to 16:00. Their cheese is also sold through cheese shops and market stalls across the Randstad.
The cheeses are brined in unrefined Portuguese salt and coated without colourings or natamycin.
