Boerderij Polderzicht
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Boerderij Polderzicht is a dairy farm on the Polderweg in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel with a farm vending machine that sells soft-serve ice cream made from its own cows' milk.
The herd is mainly Holstein Friesian, all born and raised on the farm. From April to mid-November the cows graze the meadows of polder De Ronde Hoep, which comes to more than 200 grazing days a year. Most of the milk goes to FrieslandCampina to become Noord-Hollandse cheese, and some is sold as Boeren van Amstel milk and yoghurt. Their website says synthetic fertiliser is kept to a minimum and the farm's own manure is used as fully as possible. The machine also sells eggs from the farm's own hens, Noord-Hollandse cheese, Boeren van Amstel milk and yoghurt, jam from Ouderkerk, and vegetables and fruit; whether the hens go outdoors, and whether the bottled milk comes from this farm, is not yet confirmed.
The vending machine is open around the clock and takes card payment only. The farm café, the Polderhuis, is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 17:00 between April and October and on Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00.
To protect lapwing, redshank, oystercatcher and black-tailed godwit, the farmers look for nests in the meadows and mow around them, leaving strips of tall grass where the birds and their chicks can hide.
