Willemshof's Brandroodvlees is a farm shop on the Bovenkerkerweg in Amstelveen that sells beef from its own Brandrood cattle, raised on the herb-rich meadows of the Bovenkerkerpolder.
The shop sits on the yard of Stalhouderij Willemshof, a livery stable since 1963. The Brandrood cattle grow up slowly on roomy pastures of herb-rich grassland, and their website says they are fed on grass alone. The beef is sold in packs of around 500 to 750 grams and covers nearly the whole animal, from mince, stewing and braising cuts, brisket and oxtail to ribeye, entrecote, picanha, bavette and fillet, along with a soup package of shank on the bone, sausages and dried ossenworst (beef sausage). Ready meals such as goulash, stroganoff and Limburgs zuurvlees (sour beef stew) are cooked in their own kitchen from the same beef. The shop also sells eggs, not yet confirmed, and cheese, jam and juices from suppliers it doesn't name, which we haven't judged.
The shop is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 13:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. It is staffed rather than self-service, so if nobody is at the counter you ring the bell, and visitors can ask to see the cattle with a member of staff.
