Wilde Melk
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Wilde Melk is the raw-milk tap of De Kievitshoeve, a small dairy farm on the Tienboerenweg in Mijdrecht that has been farmed by the same family since the polder was drained in 1887.
The milk in the tap is raw, from the farm's own cows, which go outside and, according to their website, eat more and more grass with herbs; the farm also states that it does not give its cows the feed additive Bovaer. The tap is open every day from 7:00 to 22:00, and you can buy a glass bottle there or bring your own jug or bottle.
The rest of the dairy in the self-service shop is bought in from other farms, so we credit only the milk. There is boerenkaas from the Vossenburgh dairy farm in Langeraar, including a grass cheese in spring, and raw-milk butter from boerderij Kwakernaak, where the cream is skimmed off by hand, soured with their own buttermilk and churned. Yoghurt, hangop (strained yoghurt), custard, buttermilk and kefir come from Melktap De Hoef. How the cows on those farms are kept we have not yet confirmed.
The milk tap opened in autumn 2023, when the farm began turning towards a less intensive way of farming.
