Best Catch
Best Catch is an online fish shop at Nieuw Loopveld 10 in Amstelveen, formerly Tonijnplein, run by two fish traders who send bluefin tuna, oysters, caviar and beef to homes across the Netherlands.
Two things met our fish bar. The oysters, Gillardeau and Geay from France, both Pacific oysters, and Irish oysters, are farmed shellfish, which the VISwijzer fish guide rates green. The bluefin tuna carries the MSC label, their website says, which is why it is on the listing; the site names no fishery or sea area, so the certificate number on the label is the thing to check. The rest of the range, from the other tunas through Canadian lobster to Wagyu, Black Angus and Holstein beef, is sold but not verified.
Orders go through the webshop and arrive the next day if placed before 15:00, the fish shock-frozen and the oysters alive, and because the oysters are taken from their holding tank only on the day of dispatch they can be ordered singly. Opening hours are listed for the address, but their website describes only an online shop, so a counter there is unconfirmed.
Best Catch catches or farms nothing itself: the caviar comes from Royal Belgian Caviar, the tuna is imported frozen, and the oysters are kept alive in a tank of filtered salt water (homarium) that mimics the sea until they ship.
