Broodnodig Paardenveld
Broodnodig on the Paardenveld in Utrecht is the bakery of a Swedish-style lunchroom that first opened in 2004, where all their bread, biscuits and cakes are baked and about 50 people can sit to eat.
The bread is made with sourdough, including the country loaf (landbrood) used for the sandwiches and toast, alongside polar bread (polarbrood), nut bread, cinnamon-and-cardamom buns and Swedish chocolate cake. They say almost all ingredients for the biscuits and cakes are organic, as are the coffee, tea and drinks and much of the sandwich filling, although the bakery holds no organic certificate.
The Paardenveld location is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00, and at weekends on request. Sandwiches can be ordered by phone until 11:30 for collection, and cakes and biscuits can be ordered ahead; delivery is possible by arrangement. Their website doesn't say whether whole loaves are sold to take home.
Leftover cake and biscuits are turned into bread pudding.
