De Hoge Born
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
De Hoge Born is an organic care farm among the fields next to the Wageningen University campus, run by a foundation that offers day activities and work training alongside a farm shop selling its own vegetables, fruit and eggs.
Vegetables and fruit are grown on the farm's own land, with keeping and restoring soil life at the centre of how they farm, and a horticulture group of participants and volunteers does the work. Eggs come daily from the farm's own hens, whose old barn is due to be rebuilt with crowdfunded money. The rest of the range, including dairy, meat, bread, juice and wine, comes from organic farms in the region. The shop also sells logs inoculated with shiitake or oyster mushroom for growing your own, and certified organic potting soil, garden soil and compost. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register.
The shop is open Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 17:00 and Saturday from 10:30 to 14:30, and delivers to customers and restaurants. Beside it are pick-your-own gardens for herbs and cut flowers.
The community garden Creative Garden Wageningen is on the same grounds.
