Korenmolen De Windhond Soest
De Windhond is a working tower corn mill on the Molenweg in Soest, run entirely by volunteers, which grinds grain on millstones several times a week and sells the flour in its own mill shop.
The mill grinds wheat, spelt, rye, barley, buckwheat and maize, and uses its own bolting machine to sieve wholemeal into white flour, semolina and bran. The flour has nothing added, and their website says the wheat, spelt and rye are ground from organically grown grain (biologisch), though the mill holds no organic certificate. Bread and baking mixes are sold too, and some grain and flour comes from Molen De Hoop in Bunschoten, whose millers work closely with De Windhond.
The mill and its shop are open all year on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00, and the mill grinds whenever there is enough wind. For larger amounts of flour you can reserve online (Click & Collect) and pay when you collect, from 13:00 on the next opening day. The millers give free tours of about an hour during opening hours.
The grinding runs on wind power, and the mill gets no subsidy, so it depends on sales and donations.
