Speel- & Beleefboerderij De Roosendaal
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
De Roosendaal is a play and visitor farm on a working dairy and pig farm in Putten that sells frozen beef from its own cattle to order.
The cattle are born on the farm, and calves not kept for the dairy herd, along with young bulls, are raised for beef; the current batch is a Black Angus and Holstein Friesian cross. In the grazing season the older beef cattle go out by day with the milking cows and come in with them at night for protection from wolves, sharing their ration of grass silage with some maize, while the young stock stay out on summer nights in a wolf-proof enclosure and get some concentrate. The beef is vacuum-packed and frozen, and the cuts include heart, tongue, liver, oxtail and shin on the bone. The farm also makes soft ice cream from its own cows' milk. Pork from their own pigs, kept in a straw-bedded barn, is sold too but isn't credited here, and the eggs are not yet confirmed.
Beef is ordered all year by app or email and collected during the play farm's opening hours or by appointment. An egg vending machine on the yard is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 22:00 and takes coins only.
In winter all the cattle are housed, and the beef cattle are fed grass silage.
