't Melkhuusje de Prinsenkamp
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
't Melkhuusje de Prinsenkamp is a mixed family farm at Prinsenweg 28 in Nijkerk, where about 65 dairy cows and 40 young animals are kept and their raw hay milk, a raw-milk hay cheese and grass-fed beef are sold.
The milk is raw, and their website states it is free of Bovaer. The cows are a crossbred herd that their website says now needs almost no antibiotics; they graze from about May to the end of October and eat fresh and dried grass all year, and concentrates are not mentioned. Prinsenkaas is made on the farm from the same milk without heating it, with only starter and rennet, no sodium nitrate, and a coating free of colouring and natamycin. The beef is young, grass-fed and sold frozen, and includes liver, heart, tongue, shin and tail pieces; whether these are the farm's own calves and whether they graze we could not confirm. The barn eggs, reportedly from a neighbour, do not qualify.
Milk is tapped yourself into a bottle you bring or buy; cheese, milk and beef are in vending machines at any hour; the shop, entered from Prinsenweg 26, opens Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00, and the cheese can be sent by post.
The hay is dried on the farm: after a few days in the field the grass is finished in barn drying boxes with a fan run largely on solar power, which keeps more of its nutrients.
