Vrijhof Oostwaard
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Vrijhof Oostwaard is a farm on a former monastery grange on the Vecht near Oud-Zuilen, between Utrecht and Maarssen, combining a food forest planted from late 2015 with a vegetable garden laid out in 2021 on the river bank behind the farmhouse.
The food forest produces nuts, berries, seeds, fruit and leaves, the vegetable garden grows vegetables, fruit and herbs, and animals graze and manure the meadows, so the parts of the farm feed one another. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register.
Vegetables are sold as a harvest share (oogstaandeel): members harvest their own vegetables and herbs every week from May to November. The farm is open from early May to late November on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00. A farm shop and a professional production kitchen are planned, but their website gave no opening date when we checked in October 2026.
The buildings on the yard are used to process the harvest from the garden and the food forest.
