Aeolus Molenwinkel
Aeolus Molenwinkel is the shop beside Molen Aeolus, the working tower mill on the Kortedijk in Vlaardingen, where home bakers buy flour ground on the mill's stones.
The professional miller grinds several kinds of grain every day on the mill's two pairs of millstones, and the meal and mixes are packed in the shop. Their website says sourdough bakers mostly buy the stone-ground wholemeal together with an American-style white flour, and the shop stocks many other kinds of meal and flour along with more than 50 bread mixes, almost all of them mixed in the mill itself, though some, such as Waldkorn, are bought-in brands. Which grains are milled, where they are grown and which of the flours come from the mill's own stones isn't stated.
The shop is open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 16:00, with different hours on some days in July, August, December and January, and customers can park briefly in front. The webshop carries the most common products and sends orders from Tuesday to Friday, also to neighbouring countries. The mill itself can be climbed on the last Saturday of each month from 11:00 to 16:00, except in December, with a free tour by the mill foundation.
The mill turns more than 350,000 times a year, which qualifies it every year for the premium the Nationaal Restauratiefonds pays to mills that keep working.
