Bloemenweide Boerderij
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Bloemenweide Boerderij is a dairy farm in Blokland near Montfoort, run by the third generation, where cows graze herb-rich grassland and the milk becomes the farm's own cheese, brie and ice cream.
Since 2018 the farm has been changed from a conventional dairy into what they call a regenerative one: the herd was cut from 195 to about 130 cows, artificial fertiliser and pesticides were stopped, and trees, fodder hedges, flowers and herb-rich pasture were planted. The farm is converting to organic, and their website says the cows are fed fully organic from 5 May to 5 November 2026, the conversion period. The farm is in the SKAL register under its company name, but by its own account its milk can't yet be sold as organic. The milk is made into Bloemenweide cheese, sold from young to old, and a Bloemenweide brie, and the ice cream is made with Daans Droomijs in Montfoort. A limited conversion cheese, the Bloeikaas, can be ordered in three ages, from a 1 kilo cheese to a 12 kilo wheel, for delivery in early 2027 and 2028.
The products are sold at the Oogst farm shop on the farmyard, open Monday to Saturday, and Bloeikaas orders can be collected at the farm or posted.
The Bloeikaas exists to carry the farm through conversion, the months in which it already pays for organic feed but can't yet sell its milk as organic.
