Neder-Oudland is a beef farm with a bed and breakfast on the Achtersloot in IJsselstein, where a herd of more than 80 Black Angus (Aberdeen Angus) cattle grazes the floodplain meadows of the Hollandse IJssel; the family switched from dairy cows to Angus beef in 2010.
The cattle business is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register under the name Lekkerkerker Rundveehouderij IJsselstein B.V. The cows are grass-fed and go out in spring as soon as the weather allows, staying out until the end of autumn. In winter they live in a deep-litter straw barn (potstal), where fresh straw goes on top every day, so they can move freely and calves stay with their mothers. The beef is sold frozen and vacuum-packed: steaks, roasts, stewing cuts, mince, burgers and sausages, plus marrow bones, shank, oxtail and short rib for broth, and liver, tongue and heart. The shop also sells chicken, pork, boerenkaas (farm cheese), eggs, raw-milk butter and honey from other farms, not yet confirmed.
The farm shop is open every Saturday from 10:00 to 16:30. Orders placed through the webshop are collected at the farm; other pickup times can be arranged by phone, and shipping only by arrangement.
The calves grow up within the herd, alongside their mothers, rather than being raised separately.
