Boerderij Eyckenstein
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Boerderij Eyckenstein is an organic beef farm on the historic Eyckenstein estate in Maartensdijk that raises Jersey bull calves from organic dairy farms such as Remeker and sells the beef in its estate shop.
The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. Their website says the cattle are raised on open pasture, without antibiotics, on feed grown on the farm itself, in a closed loop of grazing, crops and soil. The shop sells every cut of their own Jersey beef, from mince, steaks and short ribs to oxtail, shin and marrow bones, as well as liver, heart and tongue. The farm also keeps Sasso hens and roosters, a breed suited to free-range conditions, and their eggs are sold now and then; how the hens are kept isn't confirmed yet.
The estate shop is open on Wednesdays from 13:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00. Alongside the beef it stocks raw-milk Jersey cheese from Remeker, raw yoghurt and kefir from Rauwpower, sourdough from Lavett Bakery on Saturdays and organic groceries, and the Jersey beef is also sold through organic shops in the Utrecht region and Odin stores in Amsterdam.
On open days the farm gives talks on compost, soil health and regenerative cycles, alongside guided tours with local producers.
