Tuinderij Eyckenstein, Biologische groenten
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Tuinderij Eyckenstein is a vegetable garden of 0.7 hectares in the old walled kitchen garden of the Eyckenstein estate near Maartensdijk, where a grower who started here in 2006 and a small team grow a wide range of seasonal vegetables and sell them straight from the garden.
The harvest runs from asparagus, rhubarb and spinach in May through beans, tomatoes in several colours, melons and peppers in summer to pumpkins, kale and parsnips in October, with named potato varieties such as Blaue Anneliese, Belle de Fontenay and Heiderot. Their website says everything sold comes from the garden itself, and the garden is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register at this address.
The garden stall is open from 2 May to 17 October, on Wednesdays from 13:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00, outside when it's dry and in the orangery when it rains. You can pay by card or cash. Vegetable box subscriptions aren't offered for now, and the harvest depends on the weather, so it's worth phoning ahead if you want something specific.
The herb nursery Agnes Kruiden borders the garden, so on the same visit you can buy herb plants and pick flowers there.
