Boerderij Sweers
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Boerderij Sweers is a beef farm in Duiven, on the edge of Zevenaar, that sells the meat of its own heifers in ten-kilo freezer packages.
Alongside the cattle the farm runs day activities for people who need support, with a workshop, a vegetable garden and goats, Shetland ponies and rabbits to look after. The heifers graze the fields around the farm for most of the year, eating grass and, when needed, grass silage from the farm's own land. In winter they move into two large straw pens where they can walk around freely, and there they are fed maize, silage and a beef-cattle concentrate mixed for the farm by a feed merchant in Groessen.
Every package has the same mix of cuts: rib, chuck, shin, steak, stewing beef, roasting beef, entrecote, frying steak, mince, burgers and beef sausage, portioned, vacuum-packed and frozen, and it fits in one freezer drawer. Rib-eye, bavette, marrow bones, oxtail and any cuts left over after packing are sold separately. There are no opening hours; you order by email and ask when packages are available and when to collect them at the farm.
The farm doesn't breed: the heifers are bought in and raised on the farm.
