De Eekhoorn & Zoon

De Eekhoorn & Zoon is a natural-foods shop on the Hoofdweg in Ederveen, run by a father and son since 1979, that specialises in nuts, dried fruit and dry goods.

The nuts are sold loose, picked over by hand and free of preservatives, alongside raisins, currants, prunes, dates and figs, and a range of herbs, spices, cereals, tea and coffee. Their website says the fresh vegetables and fruit are organic and that much of it comes from farms nearby; the shop itself holds no organic certificate, so the label on each product is the guide. The honey comes straight from a beekeeper in Ederveen and the eggs from a farm close by.

Besides the shop in Ederveen there is a second shop in Schoonhoven, a webshop, and market stalls in Schoonhoven on Wednesdays, Amersfoort Kattenbroek on Thursdays, Twello on Fridays and Amersfoort De Hof on Saturdays. Opening hours for the Ederveen shop differ between their website and their Google listing, so check before you go.

The shop offers free advice on diet to anyone who asks, at both locations.
