Stadsakkers Veenendaal
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Stadsakkers Veenendaal is a volunteer-run vegetable field of 1.5 hectares on the Dragonderweg in Veenendaal, which grows fresh produce for the region's food banks.
The field is leased from the municipality and has been worked since 2017, when it began as an initiative of the Missie0318 foundation; about 80 volunteers do all the work, with extra hands in high season, and it also offers a workplace to people who find it hard to get one elsewhere. The aim is to supply fresh vegetables every week to around 100 Veenendaal families who receive a food parcel. Their market announcements describe the vegetables as pesticide-free.
The produce isn't sold all year. Instead the field holds market days on site, in spring and autumn and as weekly markets in summer, and whatever the food banks of Veenendaal and Ede/Wageningen don't take goes there. The dates are announced on their website, Facebook and Instagram, and in 2026 the autumn market was on Saturday 10 October from 10:00 to 12:00.
Each season starts in early spring with sowing on heated tables in the greenhouse, after which the young plants go into the greenhouse or into beds outside, and in 2026 a drip-irrigation system was being extended across the field and new compost bins built.
