De Nieuwe Molen
De Nieuwe Molen is a working windmill in Veenendaal, a round brick tower mill with a stage built in 1911, where volunteer millers grind grain by wind for people and animals.
The mill is managed by the Utrechts Landschap foundation, and since August 2005 it has also milled flour for Bakkerij Ten Veen in Bennekom, whose bread from this flour can be ordered through the mill shop. The flours on the price list are wholemeal wheat, white wheat flour, spelt and rye with the EKO organic label, a woudkoren multigrain mix, buckwheat, maize and a five-grain mix; which of them are milled here and which are bought in we couldn't confirm. The grain is ground here by wind power. Other products from Molen De Vlijt in Wageningen can be ordered and paid for in advance and collected at the shop.
The mill shop is open on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00 and takes card payment only. On opening days, usually Saturdays, a blue pennant hangs out and volunteers show visitors round the mill.
When there is enough wind during opening hours, the millers grind for the bakery or the shop, so you can watch the stones at work.
