Hoeve Waard en IJssel
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Hoeve Waard en IJssel is a beef cattle farm on the Waardsedijk in Snelrewaard, run by the third generation, which breeds about 50 Belgian Blue cattle and sells their meat directly from the farm.
The animals are born, raised and kept on the farm from start to finish, and the calves stay with their mothers. Their website says the herd has always had plenty of grazing; the cows have several calves and are then finished over a few months on ample grass with a limited amount of concentrate feed. The beef is sold vacuum-packed and frozen, and every cut of the animal is available, with separate order lists for regular and special beef cuts and for veal from their own calves. There is also an order list for pork, not yet confirmed as from their own animals.
To buy, you download an order list from their website, send it in and collect the meat at the farm on the Waardsedijk; there is no butcher or middleman in between.
Each piece of meat can be traced back to the individual cow it came from.
