Remeker (De Wagenschuur)
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- Herb-rich pastures
- Closed-loop farming
De Wagenschuur is the farm shop and café of the Remeker dairy, in a historic barn on the yard of Engelenhove farm on Landgoed Kernhem in Ede.
The shop sells Remeker's raw-milk natural-rind cheeses, made only from the milk of the farm's own Jersey cows, which graze herb-rich pasture and have been kept without antibiotics since 2004. Alongside the cheese are the farm's ghee and beer and organic beef from the same Jersey herd. The home farm, De Groote Voort, and the cheese company Remeker B.V. are both certified organic (SKAL); we found both in the register, though De Wagenschuur has no entry of its own. Soft-serve ice cream is made at the shop to a recipe developed with an ice-cream maker for the Jersey milk. The shop also stocks bought-in goods, among them Jorisbrood bread, organic eggs, coffee beans from Zwarte Koffie and a selection of organic regional products.
De Wagenschuur is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. The café serves coffee, homemade cakes and a simple lunch such as a Remeker cheese sandwich or homemade soup, and children have room to play.
The young stock of the Remeker herd is raised on the land at Engelenhove, while the cheese is made at the home farm, De Groote Voort in Lunteren.
