Remeker (De Groote Voort)
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
- Herb-rich pastures
Remeker is a dairy farm at De Groote Voort on the Postweg in Lunteren, beside the Lunterse Beek, where a family makes raw-milk natural-rind cheese and ghee from the milk of its own Jersey cows, alongside a beer under the Remeker name.
The cheese is made only from the herd's own milk. The cows have free access to herb-rich pasture, keep their horns and have been kept without antibiotics since 2004. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found both De Groote Voort and Remeker B.V. in the register. The cheeses spend less than two days in brine, so they are low in salt, and their rinds are rubbed with the farm's own ghee while they ripen. There are four ages: Pril at two to three months, Ryp at six to eight months, Olde Remeker at 13 months and Pracht at 18 months. There is also a cheese fondue, and the beer is a blond called Wij Blond.
The farm shop in Lunteren is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 13:30 to 16:00 and on Saturdays from 11:00 to 16:00. The cheeses, ghee and beer are also sold through the webshop and at De Wagenschuur, Remeker's own shop and café on Landgoed Kernhem in Ede.
The farm keeps Jerseys for cheese because, their website says, the breed's milk is higher in calcium and casein and noticeably yellow.
