De Koning Pluimveehouderij is a laying-hen farm in De Fliert near Lunteren, run by two brothers, with about 45,000 brown hens and an egg stall at the farm gate.
The farm keeps two flocks. About 23,000 of the hens are certified organic (SKAL), which we found in the register at this address, and carry Beter Leven 3 stars; they live in aviary barns at six hens per square metre with a covered veranda, and after a few weeks' adjustment they go out onto a free-range run with 4 m² per hen and shelter to hide under; they also get roughage and pecking stones. The land was converted to organic in 2004. A similar number of barn hens (Beter Leven 1 star) are kept indoors with a covered veranda, so those eggs aren't included here; at the stall, choose the organic eggs.
The eggs are sold from a stall at Zwetselaarseweg 3 in boxes of 10 or trays of 30, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:00 and Saturday from 8:00 to 20:00.
Solar panels on the farm generate all of its own electricity.
