SauerCrowd
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
SauerCrowd is a small fermentation kitchen on the Nieuwe Hemweg in Amsterdam that makes raw sauerkraut, kimchi and salsa from vegetables.
The range is a Classic Kraut, a Kimchi Kraut, a Purple Rain Kraut of local cabbage fermented with beetroot and ginger, a Golden Turmeric Kraut with fresh turmeric, carrot and curry spices, and a Classic Salsa. The ferments are sold raw, so the lactic acid bacteria in them are still alive, and everything is vegan. Their website says the ingredients are certified organic and biodynamic, but it doesn't name the farms. SauerCrowd says it is SKAL-certified, and we found it in the register.
The jars are sold at their kitchen on the Nieuwe Hemweg and in a long list of shops, among them Klein the Grocer, De Aanzet, Ekodis, Landmarkt, the Food Coop at Stadsboerderij Osdorp and the Fruittuin van West in Amsterdam, several Ekoplaza branches and farm shops elsewhere in the Netherlands. At Little Plant Pantry on the Bosboom Toussaintstraat you can fill your own jar. On Saturdays they are at De Vierslag on the organic Noordermarkt, at Biomonkie in Amsterdam Noord and at the Zuidermarkt. SauerCrowd also runs fermentation workshops.
