Slagerij Kemper
- Pigs and poultry live free range: outdoors on pasture, in woodland or a run
Slagerij Kemper is a butcher's shop on the Garderenseweg in Putten that specialises in Livar pork and also sells beef from its own cattle.
The shop is a selected Livar specialist. Livar pigs are a cross of particular breeds raised under the supervision of the monks of Abdij Lilbosch in Limburg, fed on grain and given plenty of room to root, and their website says the meat carries the animal-protection society's three-star Beter Leven mark. The chicken that passed our checks is the Kemper Landhoen, which their website describes as organic and as holding the maximum three Beter Leven stars: a slow-growing breed that takes almost twice as long as an ordinary broiler to grow, eats feed that is at least 95% organically grown, and is outside on grass, sometimes under shrubs and trees, during the day. It is sold from the freezer. The shop also sells pork from Veluwe farms and other chicken at the counter, not yet confirmed, and Black Angus from Dutch farms is not available at the moment.
The shop is open Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00. Orders can be placed by phone or through the contact page on their website.
The beef is Piemontese from the butcher's own cattle, kept by a farmer in Klarenbeek and fed on hay, maize meal and wheat.
