Biologische Tuinderij Land en Boschzigt
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Land en Boschzigt is a biodynamic market garden on one of the country estates of 's-Graveland, set among woods, where vegetables, fruit and herbs have been grown since 1947 and which calls itself the oldest biodynamic garden in the Netherlands.
The garden's own vegetables, harvested fresh from the field, are the centre of the shop, which is filled out with vegetables and fruit from other organic and biodynamic growers, bread, dairy, 35 kinds of cheese, meat, juices, wine and dry goods. The garden is certified organic (SKAL) and Demeter-certified (NL-112430); we found both in the registers. The shop is also a pickup point for Free Nature, which manages herds of Galloway and Scottish Highland cattle and wild ponies in nature reserves for Natuurmonumenten and Staatsbosbeheer, so its beef can be collected here as a frozen package ordered from Free Nature, or bought in small packs in the shop.
The shop, in the old garden barn, is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00. In the same hours you can pick your own unsprayed flowers in the flower garden next door, paying at the till.
Since 2006 the garden has also been a care farm, offering day activities to people with disabilities.
