Vierdaagse Camping en Boerderij Automaat De Plak
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Boerderij De Plak is a dairy farm on the Leuthsestraat in Ooij, in the Ooijpolder just outside Nijmegen, with vending machines where you can tap the farm's own raw milk and buy cheese made from it.
The milk is raw cow's milk, neither heated nor otherwise processed, and you tap it yourself into a bottle you bring or one bought at the machine. The cheese, Plakse kaas, is made from the fresh milk of their own cows. According to the farm's blog the cows go out to pasture in spring and graze fresh grass, and the farm also grows some arable crops, which makes it close to self-sufficient. The rest of the machines hold eggs, beef, burgers, game, chicken from a poultry farm in Groesbeek, potatoes, onions, apples, pears, walnuts, honey, jam from Ooijs Moois down the street, yoghurt, custard, buttermilk, butter and ice cream, which come from the farm or from farms nearby, not yet confirmed.
The machines are open every day of the year from 7:00 to 19:30, and payment is by card or contactless only. What is on offer changes with the season.
The cows' winter feed is the farm's own grass, stacked as silage under a sheet or dried in the sun and baled as hay.
