Westvoornes Weidevlees
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Westvoornes Weidevlees is the beef that Boerderij Assenberg in Oostvoorne sells from its farm shop, all from the farm's own Belgian Blue and Piemontese cattle.
The cattle graze the meadows in and around Oostvoorne through the summer, and the calves go out with their mothers in spring and grow up in the herd. In autumn the animals come back into a deep-litter barn (potstal), where they move freely on a thick layer of straw. They eat fresh grass in summer and grass silage and maize in winter. The beef is sold fresh and frozen in small packs, including heart, tongue, liver, beef bones and marrow bones. The shop also sells meat and eggs from other farms: Tante Door chicken, raised in barns; turkey from De Sjroete Farm in Helden, which their website says ranges in a herb meadow; Zwartbles lamb from a breeder in Hellevoetsluis; eggs from Eibaar in Den Bommel; and pork, not yet confirmed.
The shop is open on Thursday from 14:00 to 18:00, Friday from 10:00 to 16:00 and Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00, and orders can be placed for pickup through the order module on their website.
The farm grows all the cattle's feed and bedding itself: the grass, the maize and the straw in the barn all come from its own land.
