White Ranch is an organic dairy and goat farm on the Groenedijk in Assendelft, where a family milks about 50 cows and about 60 goats and sells raw milk, goat cheese, meat and eggs from a self-service shop in the barn.
The farm has a double milk tap that dispenses both raw cow's milk and raw goat's milk; after milking the milk only passes through a filter and is cooled, and it keeps for three days. All the goat milk is made into cheese on the farm, so the goat cheese, goat quark and salad cheese are raw-milk products. The goats are mainly fed on grass and go out in good weather, and the cows graze from about April to October, day and night in summer. The shop also sells goat meat, beef, organic cow's cheese and eggs from about 249 hens kept with free range and organic feed. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register as Maatschap White Ranch.
The shop and milk tap are open every day from 8:00 to 19:00, paid in cash or by Tikkie, not by card. For more than 10 litres of milk, message a day ahead. Webshop orders placed by Monday 22:00 are collected the following Wednesday.
The whey left over from cheese-making goes to the farm's few pigs, along with old bread and leaves from the vegetable garden.
