De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren is a city farm of about 2.5 hectares inside the new Landgoed Wickevoort estate in Cruquius, where two farmers, one employee and many volunteers grow vegetables, herbs and flowers for a self-harvest garden, a weekly vegetable crate and a farm shop.
The self-harvest garden grows 50 to 60 kinds of vegetables. Their website calls the produce biologisch (organic), though the farm holds no organic certificate; what qualifies it here is that the vegetables are grown unsprayed and the flowers without pesticides. The shop sells the farm's own vegetables, jam and ice cream made partly from the garden, and their own tea blends and dried herbs, alongside organic groceries from other suppliers. It also sells meat from their own chickens and pigs, though we have not yet confirmed how those animals are kept.
Joining the self-harvest garden means paying for the season up front and then picking your own vegetables whenever it suits you, any day from sunrise to sunset, from mid-May until Christmas, with a limited winter harvest in January and February. The weekly vegetable crate mixes the farm's own vegetables with produce from nearby farmers and other growers and is collected at the shop, next to Oldenburgerlaan 2, which opens on Fridays from 13:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 12:00 to 16:00.
The farm was part of the estate's plans from the start, so its plots lie between the houses at several places in the neighbourhood.
