Appeltje Eitje Lent
- Pigs and poultry live free range: outdoors on pasture, in woodland or a run
Appeltje Eitje Lent is an unmanned shop on the Oranje Marieplein in Lent, near the AH XL, one of six run by two farmers from Dodewaard and Opheusden to sell eggs and fruit from their own farms.
The eggs come from two flocks of white hens on their farms: one is a barn flock (scharrel) with a covered outdoor run, the other a free-range flock that really goes outside as well as indoors. Both are given conventional feed, and the free-range eggs are the ones that meet our bar; we don't yet know which of the two lines this shop stocks. The fruit is Elstar apples and Conference pears from their own land, kept crisp in the farm's cold stores. The shop also sells cheese, juice, jam, honey, baking mixes and other regional products, most of them from other producers and none of them checked by us.
The shop is open every day from 7:00 to 21:30; you choose, pay and collect yourself, and a phone number is posted for problems. Gift and Christmas packages ordered through their webshop can be collected free in the shops.
The eggs go straight from the farm to the shops, a shorter chain than usual, so they arrive day-fresh and keep for at least 28 days.
