Veld en Beek is an organic mixed farm in Doorwerth, running since 1999, which produces its own dairy, meat, vegetables, grain and bread and sells it directly.
The dairy herd is the old Dutch Blaarkop breed, kept with horns, and the cows are outside almost all year on herb-rich grassland. The bull calves are raised as oxen grazing large nature reserves, and that beef is sold alongside pork from their own pigs. In the farm's dairy room the milk is made into milk, yoghurt, buttermilk, kefir, cheese, quark, butter, crème fraîche and cream, sold in returnable glass bottles and jars. Vegetables are grown in open ground and cold greenhouses from seedlings raised in their own peat-free potting mix and fed with compost from straw-rich manure. Grain from their own flower-rich fields is ground at De Witte Molen in Nijmegen and baked into bread every morning in the farm bakery. The farm is certified organic (SKAL) and Demeter-certified; we found both in the registers.
To buy, you register as a customer at the farm, on Fridays at 16:00 or by arrangement, and get a key to self-service pickup points open 24/7 in Doorwerth/Heelsum, Ede/Bennekom, Wageningen, Oosterbeek and Renkum, and Arnhem for cheese and meat. Milk, yoghurt, buttermilk and kefir are ordered weekly; purchases are logged in their app and paid monthly by direct debit.
The cows also graze nature areas in summer and winter for conservation organisations.
