Het Broodlokaal
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Het Broodlokaal is a bread shop and lunch café on the Slotlaan in Zeist, open since 2009, which bakes off sourdough bread from a baker in Zuid-Holland and also sells loaves from an organic bakery near Utrecht.
The main bread comes from a baker named a provincial 'Held van de Smaak' for Zuid-Holland, who makes the dough to a French recipe; their website says the flour is organic, though the shop itself holds no organic certificate. The dough is baked in Zeist, and the Pain Gris, for example, is made from white wheat flour, rye flour, wholemeal rye, water, sea salt and sourdough. The shop also sells bread from De Veldkeuken, a small organic bakery in the coach house of the Nieuw Amelisweerd estate. Cakes and biscuits are baked on the premises every day, and the soups are made from fresh vegetables and stock.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday. Orders for collection can be picked up between 9:00 and 16:30, and lunch orders can be delivered around 11:00.
Apart from the bread, almost everything is made in their own open kitchen, without added colourings or flavourings.
