De Elisabeth-Hoeve
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
De Elisabeth-Hoeve is an arable farm on the Hoofdweg south of Nieuw-Vennep with a farm shop and a self-harvest vegetable garden for subscribers.
No synthetic fertiliser or pesticides are used on the vegetable garden, which is fed with compost and solid manure and planted with organic seed and plants where these are available; their website makes that statement for the garden, not for the arable fields. The farm shop sells potatoes and onions from the farm, vegetables from the garden, jams and chutneys made with fruit they grow, flour milled from their own wheat, quinoa, eggs from their own hens and eierlikeur (egg liqueur) made with those eggs. Honey comes from hives standing on their fields. How the hens are kept is not stated, and the products the shop buys in from regional producers were not checked.
The shop is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00. Joining the self-harvest garden means buying a harvest share for one season of about 32 weeks, from mid-May to the end of November; each week the growers mark what is ready, and you can pick from Monday to Saturday between 9:00 and 17:00. Someone else can use your share while you are on holiday.
A care farm on the same yard offers day activities for people with a disability.
