Grutto

Grutto, formerly Koopeenkoe.nl and Crowdbutching, is an online meat shop based in Baambrugge that sells meat from named Dutch farms and delivers to homes across the Netherlands.

The beef is mainly grass-fed and comes from dual-purpose breeds such as Blaarkop, MRIJ, Fleckvieh and Montbéliarde, as well as grass-fed Wagyu and organic water buffalo, and each pack is traced to the animal's ear number, the farm and the abattoir. Chicken includes organic Polderhoen as well as Oranjehoen, pork is sold as weidevarken (pasture pig), beef is aged for about 21 days, and the range now includes broths and organ meat. Some lines are imported, among them red deer and wild boar from Rhineland-Palatinate and wild-caught Pacific salmon, and these aren't included in this listing. Grutto is certified organic (SKAL) as a trader; we found it in the register.

There are two ways to buy. Whole-animal packs of beef, pork or chicken are shared by about 30 buyers, the animal is only slaughtered once it is fully sold, and the meat arrives chilled about three weeks later. Individual cuts are sent frozen, arriving the next day when ordered before 10:00 on a weekday. A membership gives regular deliveries at lower prices.

Because each animal is sold in full before slaughter, every part of it is used.
