IJsboerderij Vrederust
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
IJsboerderij Vrederust is a dairy farm at Gooyer Wetering 10 in Driebergen-Rijsenburg where, since December 2021, part of the milk from the farm's own herd of about 90 cows is made into ice cream and sold from a shop on the farm.
The ice cream is made from the farm's own whole milk and its own cream, and all of it is gluten-free apart from the base under the ice cream cakes. No milk or other dairy is sold, since the rest of the milk goes to the dairy factory. The cows have 32 hectares of herb- and clover-rich grassland around the farm where they graze day and night for about 200 days a year, and the farm grows its own maize, field beans and barley-peas for their concentrate and winter feed. The clover and herb swards fix their own nitrogen, so those fields get no artificial fertiliser.
In the summer season the shop and terrace are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00, until 17:00 early in the week and later from Thursday to Saturday, and closed on Sundays; ice cream cakes can be ordered from the webshop for collection.
Their website says the farmer checks a field for nesting lapwings before ploughing in spring and mows so that young hares have the chance to run.
