Landwinkel ‘t Eemveld
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Landwinkel 't Eemveld is the farm shop of a Black Angus beef farm on the Wakkerendijk in Eemnes, in the Eemland polder, selling beef from the farm's own herd.
The cattle graze the meadows around the farm whenever the weather allows, which works out at about eight months outside and four in the barn, where the cows live in roomy straw-bedded pens. They are entirely grass-fed all year, on pasture in summer and on the farm's own grass silage in winter, with no maize, grain or concentrates; apart from vitamins and minerals, all their feed comes from the farm. Calves stay with their mothers for as long as they suckle. After cutting, the beef is vacuum-packed and aged for 21 days, then sold fresh or frozen, and besides steaks and roasts the price list includes liver, soup meat, shin, oxtail and marrow bones. Chicken from Oranjehoen and regional dairy, juice and honey are also sold, not yet confirmed.
The shop is open on Thursday and Friday from 14:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, and at other times by appointment.
Working with Collectief Eemland, the farm protects meadow-bird nests, mows late, grazes extensively and keeps wet patches (plas-dras) for the birds, and it is moving away from slurry and synthetic fertiliser towards solid manure and compost.
