De Nieuwe Graanschuur
De Nieuwe Graanschuur is a cooperative organic supermarket on the Bloemendalsestraat in Amersfoort that sells as much as possible unpackaged and from the region.
Everything in the shop is organic, and most products carry SKAL certification; the exceptions are products from farms in conversion, which are marked as such on the shelf. The shop itself is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. Vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat are bought directly from farms within 25 kilometres of Amersfoort where possible, among them 't Struykgewas in Scherpenzeel, 't Paradijs in Barneveld and De Zonnehoeve in Zeewolde, and what those farms cannot supply comes from organic wholesalers. You can tap olive oil, grind grain into flour, buy rice and coffee beans loose, make your own peanut butter and fill your own bottles and jars. Damaged produce is cooked in the shop's kitchen into soups, vegetable tarts and salads.
The shop is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 19:30 and Saturday from 8:30 to 18:00, with hot lunch served between 11:00 and 14:00. A regional vegetable crate, enough for three meals a week, is available as a subscription you can cancel weekly, and anyone can become a member of the cooperative.
The cooperative invests its profits in expanding organic production in and around Amersfoort.
