Stijlslagerij Englebert
- Pigs and poultry live free range: outdoors on pasture, in woodland or a run
- Heritage breeds
Stijlslagerij Englebert is a butcher's shop on the Goudsbloemlaan in Den Haag that buys its meat directly from the farmers who raise the animals.
The pork is Livar, from pigs raised partly in the gardens of Abdij Lilbosch, an abbey in Echt in Limburg, and on seven other farms that meet the Livar rules: barns bedded with fresh straw, pigs free to go outside day and night as they choose, and no more than 1,000 pigs per farm. The beef and veal are Piemontese, from a fattener who is one of three in the Netherlands keeping only that Italian breed; their website says the cattle range freely, get feed without unnecessary additives, and that calves stay with their mothers for the first six months. They also sell Texel lamb and, in season, venison and wild boar from the Veluwe, not yet confirmed. Their own bone broth is simmered from bones, not stock cubes, and sold as a four-litre package.
The shop is closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and there is an order page on their website.
Because the shop takes whole animals, it makes many house products from the cuts that butchers once used routinely.
