Be-leaf
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Be-leaf is a certified organic glasshouse grower of almost two hectares on the Maasdijk in 's-Gravenzande, in the Westland, where young salad leaves are grown for the trade and a wider range of vegetables for their own farm shop.
The main crop is young leaves: rocket, several mild baby-leaf varieties, lamb's lettuce, red chard and baby spinach, along with radishes and leaf celery, which their website says are grown without artificial antioxidants or other agents. For the shop they also grow small amounts of tomatoes (a black tomato among them), courgettes, aubergines, cucumbers, several kinds of beans, pumpkins and other vegetables in their own glasshouse. The grower is certified organic (SKAL, NL-BIO-01.528-0005149.2024.001); we found the certificate in the register.
The farm shop at Maasdijk 43 is open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00, and next to their own produce it sells field vegetables and fruit from other growers they describe as organic, plus bought-in juices, jams, eggs and cheese. The weekly BeleefBio vegetable box, enough for two or three meals with raw vegetables, a salad product and a recipe, can be ordered online until midnight on Thursday and collected at the shop on Saturday during opening hours. It combines vegetables from their own glasshouse with produce from other growers in the region, and the next week's contents are posted online from Friday.
