Bioboerderij Miltenburg
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Bioboerderij Miltenburg is an organic dairy farm of about 120 cows on the Overeind in Schalkwijk between Houten and Culemborg, where the fourth generation of the family turns part of its own milk into dairy and sells it, with its own beef, from a vending machine on the farmyard.
The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. No artificial fertiliser or chemical sprays are used and all feed is certified organic. In the grazing season (April to October) the cows go out whenever the weather and soil allow and choose for themselves when to come back in. From their own whole milk they make yoghurt, kefir, hangop (strained yoghurt), vla and drinking yoghurt; the milk is briefly low-pasteurised, not sold raw. Their Schalkwijker cheese, young to old plus herb varieties, is made from their milk at Kaasboerderij De Buitenhoeve. The beef is sold frozen and vacuum-packed, from mince and burgers to steak, entrecote and stewing cuts, because they aim to use the whole animal.
The vending machine in the hay barn is open around the clock and takes card payment; larger meat orders go through WhatsApp or phone.
The cows are not pushed for top yields, so they give less milk and stay healthy for longer, and the grassland grows slowly with room for herbs.
