Tuin Brassica
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Tuin Brassica is a vegetable garden, orchard, herb and flower garden, food forest and apiary of just over two hectares on two plots in Schalkwijk, De Griend and Honswijk, run since 2013 by a mother and daughter who sell the harvest from a small farm shop.
They grow a range of vegetables, soft fruit, apples and pears, and the orchard includes some old varieties of apple, pear and plum. Everything is grown without artificial fertiliser or pesticides. There are 10 to 20 beehives in the garden, kept with as natural a method of beekeeping as they can manage, so honey is part of the range.
The shop is open on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00, and on Tuesday and Friday for orders placed in advance by email or phone. From January to March the shop takes orders only, using a weekly order list sent out with the newsletter. A self-service stall behind the black shed is always open, and cakes and gift parcels can be ordered outside opening hours.
The older part of the garden is slowly turning into a food forest as its trees grow, while the wet willow coppice (griend) next to it is left entirely to nature.
