Boerderij de Omrand is an organic family farm in Stoutenburg-Noord, near Amersfoort, that sells beef from its own Angus-cross cattle through a Friday farm shop and as meat packages.
The family farms on three sites: poultry in Stoutenburg-Noord, dairy cows in Hall, and young stock and beef cattle in Vorden. The beef cattle are raised in Vorden, where as soon as the weather allows they graze day and night on the herb-rich meadows of Landgoed Het Medler,, and are slaughtered at two to three years old. Their website says the cattle are outside about 200 days a year and eat only grass and herbs. Besides steaks, mince, stewing cuts and beef sausages, the farm shop sells marrow bones (mergpijp) and shank by the kilo. The farm has been fully organic since 2010 and is certified organic (SKAL); the certificate we found in the register is in the name of the family partnership at this address.
The farm shop at Zwarte Goorderweg 3 opens every Friday from 13:00 to 18:00 and sells fresh beef by the kilo. Fixed meat packages of about 2, 6 or 10 kg can be ordered on their website, for collection in Stoutenburg-Noord, Hall or Vorden or for delivery.
The beef comes out of the family's own dairy herd: some of the FleckVieh cows in Hall are crossed with Angus bulls, and those calves are the ones raised for meat in Vorden.
