Boerderijwinkel De Deel
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- Pigs and poultry live free range: outdoors on pasture, in woodland or a run
Boerderijwinkel De Deel is the farm shop of Zorgboerderij Blommendal, a care farm in Stoutenburg near Leusden, and sells beef and pork from the farm's own cattle and pigs.
The cows are out on pasture from May to November, and the pigs live in small groups and can root outdoors for the whole season. Their website calls the animals grass-fed, though what the cattle eat in winter we couldn't confirm. The meat is sold without additives, except for the burgers, sausages, rolled joints, shoarma and satay. Besides the usual steaks and stewing cuts, the beef list runs to marrow bones, oxtail, shank, short ribs, cheeks, liver, tongue and suet, and the pork to belly, cheeks, liver and soup bones; a soup chicken is listed too, not yet confirmed as their own. The other shop products are made by the farm's day-care participants from the farm's own produce or bought from local businesses.
The shop is open Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00 to 17:30 and on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 16:00, and their website keeps a current stock list showing which cuts are available.
From May to November the calves stay out on the grass with their mothers.
