Boerderijwinkel De Kleine Hope
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
De Kleine Hope is a dairy farm in Renswoude, on the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, that makes farm ice cream and dairy from its own cows' milk and sells it in its farm shop.
Part of the milk from the twice-daily milking is made on the farm into about 20 flavours of cream ice cream (boeren-roomijs), farm custard (boerenvla), mild yoghurt (boerengarde), low-fat and fruit yoghurts, whipping cream, and whole and semi-skimmed milk; the rest is collected by the dairy factory. The cows are outside for a large part of the year and housed in winter. Their website does not say whether the milk is pasteurised. The shop also sells boerenkaas (farm cheese) and buttermilk, not yet confirmed as made from their own milk, and eggs from their own barn hens.
The shop is open on Tuesday from 13:30 to 18:00, Wednesday to Friday from 9:30 to 18:00 and Saturday from 9:30 to 16:00. The ice cream can also be booked for parties with a hired ice-cream cart.
The cows eat mainly grass and maize, and the feed for winter is harvested and stored on the farm during the summer.
