De Dassenhof
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
- Food forest
De Dassenhof is a food forest and pick-your-own garden on the Hatertseweg in Malden, between numbers 27 and 29, where more than a hundred different edible plants now grow in a system meant to keep producing food year after year with as little human intervention as possible.
The growers describe the forest first as an experiment in which plants support each other and which edible perennials suit this particular spot, and second as a way to store carbon and build a food system that stays productive for generations. The produce is unsprayed and is mostly fruit, with some seasonal vegetables; food forests on the Kop van Malden are grown without fertiliser or pesticides.
There is no shop or delivery. Instead, visitors pick for themselves on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 17:00, from mid-April to early November, and pay a modest price on the spot; the range is larger from June onwards.
De Dassenhof belongs to the Vereniging Stadslandbouw Kop van Malden, a group of nature-inclusive growers on the edge of Nijmegen who farm without poisons and through closed cycles.
