Regio Oogst Brakkenstein
Regio Oogst Brakkenstein is a cooperative neighbourhood food shop on the Heyendaalseweg in Nijmegen that sells fresh food from farms, growers and makers within about 50 km of the city.
Suppliers named on their website include the dairy farms Peek & Fokker and Speetenhof, Aurora's boerenkaas (farm cheese), which their website describes as organic, a laying-hen farm in Doetinchem, Natuurkoeien beef from Aerdt, strawberries from Kwekerij de Beijer, potatoes from Van Gendt and honey from Stadsimkerij Bijmegen and Imkerij de Oase. Their website says the suppliers are a mix of conventional and organic farms, so the vegetables, fruit, dairy, meat and eggs are not yet confirmed product by product. The shop aims for 80 per cent local produce and chooses producers who are willing to join the farmers' cooperative Oregional.
The shop is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00, and unsold food is offered through Too Good To Go.
Together with its suppliers, the cooperative has drawn up a plan, De boer natuurlijk, to replace chemical pesticides step by step with biological pest control and natural crop protection.
