Kansrijk Biologische Zelfoogsttuin
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
- Agroecological farming
Kansrijk is a self-harvest market garden in Groenekan, near Utrecht, where a team of four growers raises more than 50 kinds of vegetables, herbs and soft fruit for members who come to pick their own share each week.
The growers don't plough, disturb the soil as little as possible, walk only on the paths and keep the beds covered, and they grow nitrogen-fixing crops to build soil structure. Their website says no pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or synthetic fertiliser are used, and the garden is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register under the name Tuin Kansrijk at this address. The season runs from spring radish and turnip greens through courgettes and strawberries to pumpkin and kale in autumn.
Members buy a harvest share for the regular season from May to November, and there are also summer and winter shares; the 2026 regular shares are taken, but there is a waiting list. Since 2023 members pay according to what they can afford. Without a share, you can buy vegetables harvested that morning in the garden shop, open on Saturdays from June to October from 10:00 to 17:00.
Members and growers share the risk, so a good season brings a large harvest and a poor one less, and the share money pays for seed, the land rent and the growers' income.
